Opportunity Health - Get Started Medical Pitch (2021)

The Louisiana Center for Health Innovation at UL Lafayette partnered with the Opportunity Machine - Lafayette’s Center for Entrepreneurs and Louisiana Economic Development to provide a new opportunity for students and faculty to get involved in the annual Get Started Medical Pitch Competition.

Opportunity Health is a hybrid accelerator program focused on healthcare companies that are looking to improve care, reduce costs and create new efficient approaches to problems within the medical industry. The six startups chosen to participate in the program will receive access to c-level healthcare industry leaders who are willing to open their facilities’ doors to test innovative products/services, mentor startups, and potentially invest to create smart partnerships.

The events are part of the annual Innovate South conference (November 5-7, 2021) that welcomes entrepreneurs and innovative thinkers from all over the Gulf South to learn, grow and network with a full schedule of world-class speakers, workshops, and the medical startup competition.

The program searched for the best and brightest faculty and students to serve as subject matter experts, or potential interns for Opportunity Health, a new program that will help connect some of the University’s finest talent with high-growth startups. We are currently recruiting individuals in the following departments-

  • Nursing/Allied Health
  • Computer Science/Informatics
  • Biology
  • Business/MBA candidates
  • Graphic Design
  • Communications
  • Kinesiology
  • Engineering

This event is a great opportunity to -

  • Explore entrepreneurship and startup development
  • Share your experience or learn new skills
  • Expand your resume, CV, portfolio
  • Network with local and national healthcare professionals
  • Discover potential scholarship and/or job opportunities

The partnership is a win-win for faculty to participate as a subject matter experts that may increase exposure, funding opportunities such as grants, research, and product commercialization. Your participation will be virtual, but if COVID restrictions allow, you may meet some of these high-growth startups at this year’s Innovate South conference.
