Dr. Jeanne Cartier

Jeanne Cartier is a Full Professor in the LHC Group · Myers School of Nursing at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She earned a PhD in Nursing with a focus on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in 2003 from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Her master’s in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing was earned from Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia; her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston State University (now the University of Massachusetts, Boston).

Dr. Cartier’s scholarly pursuits are focused on nurse practitioner education, social determinants of health, and the health care of vulnerable and at-risk populations. Her clinical background as a nurse practitioner managing patients with psychiatric health issues in both outpatient and inpatient settings informed her understanding of the relationship between the social determinants of health with health and well-being. The intersectionality of hunger, food, and health is the overarching framework for her research activities. She is currently enrolled at the American College of Culinary Medicine’s Certified Culinary Medical Specialist program. Upon completion, she will be eligible to sit for certification. Dr. Cartier is committed to improving access to health care resources, and by extension to improving health outcomes, through community-based research and advancing the education of health professions in this area.
