LCHI Advances Data-Driven Rural Health Transformation in Louisiana

The Louisiana Center for Health Innovation (LCHI) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is contributing to a statewide initiative to strengthen health care in Louisiana’s rural communities.

Through the Louisiana Department of Health’s Rural Health Transformation Program, UL Lafayette researchers are developing an artificial intelligence-based geographic information system and data platform that will bring together statewide data to help identify community health needs and areas where resources are needed.

LCHI is working alongside the Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) and the Accessible Healthcare through AI-Augmented Decisions (AHeAD) Center on the rural health data platform. LCHI’s contribution brings a public health and health informatics perspective to the platform, focusing on how health data and information can support rural health planning and decision-making.

The work is part of nearly $2.1 million awarded to UL Lafayette by the Louisiana Department of Health to support rural health initiatives across the state.

On October 1, rural health providers joined the Louisiana Department of Health and UL Lafayette on campus for an update on the Rural Health Transformation Program. The gathering brought together partners involved in the statewide effort and provided an opportunity to share insights as the program develops.

LCHI’s involvement reflects the Center’s broader work connecting research, data, and partnerships to address health challenges facing Louisiana communities.
